Florist FAQs

Is it true that the color of a flower carries a meaning?

Yes. Each color of flowers – particularly roses – carries a particular meaning.
Red – Love, Respect, Courage
Yellow – Joy, Gladness, Freedom, Friendship
Peach or Pink – Appreciation, Admiration, Sympathy
White – Reverence, Purity, Innocence, Secrecy
Coral or Orange – Fascination, Enthusiasm, Desire
Lavender – Enchantment
Red and White – Unity

What colors should I choose for my wedding theme and flowers?

White is always available and always great for weddings, but to add some color it is best to stick with the flower colors that are in season. The flowers will cost less this way and it will look better to match the season you’re getting married in.

For a spring wedding go with pinks, purples, yellow and blues. For a summer wedding dark pinks, dark purples, reds and peaches are best. For a fall wedding oranges, greens, peaches, purples and dark browns are wonderful. And for winter stick with reds, greens, yellows and browns.

Why do we toss the bouquet at weddings?

The tradition of tossing the bouquet started in England. The bride was believed to have good luck on her wedding day, so guests would try to tear off pieces of her dress and flowers in order to obtain good luck. So to keep from getting her dress ripped, the bride would toss her bouquet to the guests to fight over as a token of good luck. Today the bouquet is only tossed to single women with the belief that whoever catches it will be the next to get married.
