Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are stunningly beautiful, smell great, and are a great decoration for any event, occasion or room in the house. Everyone who grows them, buys them, displays them, or receives them wants to keep them looking and smelling beautifully for as long as possible. Although fresh flowers won’t last very long once they have been cut, there are several things you can do to prolong their life.

The first step to ensuring your fresh flowers get the maximum life-time is to make sure the container they are in is clean. This will prevent any bacteria from ruining the quality. Also remove any excess leaves or foliage that sits below the water; it will eventually rot and cause gross water and bacteria. Once they are in the clean container, do not put them in direct sunlight or on top of a furnace or anything that would cause the water to get too hot.

You must change the water in the container holding the fresh flowers every day or two. Also be sure to use the flower food that the florist should provide. When the stems begin to brown at the bottom, take the flowers out and place them underwater while you cut about two inches off from the bottom of the stem at a diagonal angle. Then immediately place them back into fresh cold water in the clean container.
